Class Descriptions:
Pre School (age 3 – 4):
Our pre school dance classes are imaginative and fun. They introduce children to dance and movement developing their gross motor skills using the natural actions of the body such as walking, running, jumping, hopping, skipping and galloping. It is structured to assist children’s physical development, co-ordination, spatial awareness, creativity and self-expression. Working individually, with a partner, or as a group these classes will also help to improve socialization and listening skills. In addition the children are introduced to simple ballet vocabulary.
Ballet:
Classical Ballet is the foundation for all dance. Classes will emphasise technique and correct body alignment along with flexibility, strength, grace, co ordination, musicality and performance quality. Students will have the opportunity to take examinations under the IDTA examination system once they have reached the required standards in each grade. The examinations are not compulsory and those not wishing to take examinations will move to the next class along with their peers providing the level is achieved.
Tap:
Tap is an enjoyable form of dance which we introduce initially for reception age children as part of their weekly class. It is ideal for developing rhythm in the young child. As the students progress, their skills and style in the technique will develop. Students will have the opportunity to take examinations under the IDTA examination system once they have reached the required standards in each grade. The examinations are not compulsory and those not wishing to take examinations will move to the next class along with their peers providing the level is achieved.
Musical Theatre:
Our Musical Theatre classes are great fun. With a mixture of drama singing and dance the students work on pieces from musicals developing skills in a variety of areas. These classes are particularly helpful in developing confidence. Examinations are also offered in this subject.
Hip Hop Street:
Our Hip Hop Street classes are extremely popular. Street dance covers a variety of ‘Street’ styles and we cover and develop a range of these in class. Examinations are offered in this subject.
Freestyle Jazz/Commercial Dance:
Freestyle dance developed in the early 80’s! Today backing dancers seen on television and shows will be dancing some form of freestyle dance, although the majority of these dancers will also have studied ballet and other dance forms! Our classes are energetic and fun and focus generally on current trends and styles in music and dance. As the students develop the classes are then based more on Commercial Dance, which can be anything Commercial! In this class the students also learn to dance ‘in heels’. Examinations are offered in this subject.
Break Dance:
Our break dance class aims to teach Break Dancing in a safe and controlled environment. It focuses on the steps and tricks performed by break dancers and also includes ‘freestyling’.
Adult Tap:
Adult tap is a great way to keep fit. Our classes are fun whilst learning the skills of tap dance.
Adult Freestyle:
Our Adult Freestyle class is aimed at the more mature dancer who just loves to dance.
Adult Belly Dance:
Our Fusion Belly Dance class is a popular way to keep fit, improve co-ordination, confidence and flexibility. The classes are friendly and fun. In addition to the regular class we offer a performance class to those interested in developing choreographic ideas further.
